2013.06.19 Dizzy D'Arcy

D'Arcy was suffering from vertigo and tinnitus. Our family doctor,Dr.Francis Li located on Pape Avenue refered him to a specialist on January 31,2013. He saw Doctor Elmasri William ENT on April 30, 2013 at In Sight here on Danforth who sent him to another specialist at Thornhill Hearing and Balance Centre on June 5, 2013. On that day as we got out of the truck his Tinnitus got really bad. The humming in his ear got worse.

He received treatment and the vertigo went away. D'Arcy and I went back this morning for a followup. The doctor asked D'Arcy if he sill had the vertigo and D'Arcy said no.

It turns out that D'Arcy was suffering from "Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo." The Doctor explained that the crystals in his head got dislodged and floated in to his inner ear. His treatment put that right. He said that about twenty percent of people get it back. I hope D'Arcy is not one of the twenty percent.

So on the way home I joked around and said "D'Arcy you lost your marbles." D'Arcy said to me the doctor said "crystals" and I said marbles goes better with the joke.

He still has tinnitus and has a bit of hearing loss at 4Khz but at least he isn't falling over any more. Here is a web site on tinnitus.
